March 2006

I propose that the next convocation of the Salon Des Grands Geeks take place on Saturday, May 27th at my house. Here are a few excellent reasons to attend.

1. Kiri is coming from the sunny shores of California, a rare treat.
2. Although it is sad to see the end of the era of Chateau Joan, you’ve just got to see my new digs, which are on a lake, inviting kayaking, picnics, and other lake-ey pursuits.
3. That Friday is my birthday, and this may be your only opportunity to see Iain remember my birthday.
4. Spring means a new round of culinary delights. Barbecue, anyone?

Drop me an e-mail and let me know if this date works. I’d love to see you all then!

A while back there was a discussion about good science fiction books. I decided to put together a ‘reading list’ of Science Fiction films. It can be found here.

I decided to arrange the films into weeks with the notion that films could be watched once per day. Which means that I tried to pick films you could watch back to back and still remain sane.

I kind of ran into a problem with Week 7. I wanted to capture films which confront human enlightenment. But unfortunately, all I could really think of were films like 2001/Close Encounters of the third kind/Red Planet/Chronos which would be unwatchable on adjacent days for most people. Suggestions?

Several of you have asked me to post my book reviews to the site. While I’ve decided not to do this for several reasons, I have instead posted a list of my book reviews under the “Pages” section on the right. If anyone would like to read my review of one of the books on the list, just drop me an e-mail and I’d be happy to send it to you. If you’d like to discuss a book, that’s even better. If you’d like to recommend a book, best of all! Hugs to you all, and happy reading.
