There are two upcoming in-person (i.e. with food) events for the Salon des Grands Geeks which I hope you will be able to attend. First, a dinner is planned for the evening of Sunday, July 10 in Pittsburgh, PA, where Kiri and Trey will be attending a conference on Artificial Intelligence and the rest of us will be just tagging along like the roadies that we are. This plan is very amorphous right now.
Second, the weekend of July 16th, you are invited to a salon at my parents’ house in State College, PA. I will actually be there from Thursday the 14th to Monday the 18th, and all are welcome to come for more than just the weekend. The Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts will be going on then, which is a wonderful arts festival with many great concerts as well. It will be summer grilling season, and I have all kinds of delicious recipes in mind. I very much hope that you will come, and if you can, please let me know ASAP if you are coming and if you need accommodations, as space is limited in the house and moms like to know these things in advance.
I miss you all and hope to see you very soon.

I hope that some of you can make it to Pittsburgh on the 10th! And I would desperately love to join you in State College the following weekend. If only I could really be in two places at once…

I have tentatively scheduled off the week of the 11th. Hopefully my coworkers will cooperate, and I can make both events. I would like some clarification on the plan for the 10th, because I’d like to know if I can/need to schedule…. other things.
My plan is to hit Trey up for crash space. Trey, if you are reading this…
What confuses me is that if Kiri can be in our thoughts, and also be somewhere else, then is she not in two places? If all out thoughts are in one place, and Kiri, alone, thinks she is in another, why are our thoughts not more real than hers? Clearly, metaphysical balance would require that her actual prescence lie close to us. Although this puzzle is clearly [cough] beyond me, I believe that Kiri can be in two places at once, we merely need to think _REALLY HARD_ and she will manifest.
I’ll bring some Tylenol in case it doesn’t work.

Since our senses are fallible, perhaps we will err in not perceiving Kiri to be present. Or, to paraphrase Rorty, … on second thought, never mind.
For my part, however, I’ll strive to require less fastidious critical (or should that be uncritical?) inquiry to evaluate the truth or falsity of my presence.
(Though I might send an actor (shades of Stover’s _Heroes Die_), or, better, a clone(!), just to be difficult.)

Although I always welcome Tylenol when Iain is around, it might be more productive for us all to consult our calendars for a good date in the fall to meet again, then call Kiri and wheedle her into reserving it for us. With Donna, our rhetoric expert, on our side, she doesn’t stand a chance against our wheedling! We shall wheedle victoriously!

I would also like to add that my house, chez Kiri, in lovely Monrovia, CA, is a fine venue for a fall meeting (or even a January/February meeting, when all to the east is cold and drear). I would love to have all of you visit my place. I even have furniture now! I can seat six at my new dining table, and there’s a spare bed. For sleeping, not dining. What say you? :)

I feel the need to add that Kiri has a *beach* near her house. I’m 100% behind the idea of salon chez Kiri.

So the conference was a lot of fun, but I didn’t see hide nor hair of Iain there. Iain, where art thou?
